Art- silhouette prints

Another amazing project for Art!! Making silhouette prints.

Materials: Paper, Paint, Exacto Knife, Cardboard, Heavy books

Steps on how to make silhouette prints:

1- Choose a easy picture that can be cut out on cardboard. I used a bat as my drawing.
2- Trace it out on paper and then draw it on cardboard.
3- Cut out the drawing from the cardboard.

4- Choose a colour and paint the drawing that's cut out from the cardboard.
5- Then, place the drawing on paper and put heavy objects on the object to get a good print for 2-5 minutes.
6- After, take off the books and carefully take the drawing off from the paper.
7- You just made a silhouette print! 😊
To make more prints, follow the steps.

Does social media have negative or positive effect on our mental health?

Does social media have negative or positive effect on our mental health?

I think that social media has both negative and positive effect on mental health because it really depends on how you use it. Some of most people abuse social media by staying online for 20 hours or more a day. Other people use it to study or watch movies. All of that affects us in both positive and negative way. Most teenagers these days stay on social media sites (facebook, twitter, snapchat, Instagram, tumblr etc) and the reasons are mostly that we want to chat with friends, post pictures, like posts from other people but we do not realize we are getting nothing out of this. Social media is a addiction to most people these days because every day we go on these sites multiple times without any reason. We stay up all night on these sites, we do not do our homework, or care about school, and we do not listen to our parents either.

Social media made us humans a total different person in a total different world. It made us forget who we are and what our goal is. It made us forget what useful things we could be doing in the amount of time we waste every day. The only positive effects of social media are probably that it helps you stay connected with family and people you don’t often see or find out what homework you have missed on a day you were absent at school. But there are several negative effects of social media like anyone can take others pictures and track them down with it, or cyberbully someone with a different username, or post rude comments. It also effects the way you write for example “IDK, SMH, LOL, DKM”, and staying up all night on these social media sites are the causes for bad eye site, unfinished homework, bad grades, negative attitude and rude behaviour, talking back to elders and swearing.

A person chooses to either get trapped in the social media world, or stay away from it. Although I think most teenagers would rather have themselves trapped in it because they feel like there’s nothing they can do without devices or internet. When they go home after school, they watch movies, text their friends, listen to music for the rest of the day instead of spending at least 2 hours to do their homework or study for a test or exercise. They choose to lock themselves in their room and do absolutely non-useful work. Parents who work for a lot of hours
every day, think that their child probably does some work while they are away, but they never really check what they have been doing or what they do in school.

Facebook, twitter, snapchat, Instagram, are most of the social media sites that everyone uses now a day. They do not realize how much time they waste doing nothing every day, and from my experience, when you take away their device, they feel like there’s nothing to do, or have no idea where they are, it’s like they are lost without social media. I, myself sometimes stays on messenger or Instagram to look at pictures and text my friends and sometimes I do it for hours without realizing and when I get up after a long time of sitting, I feel dizzy and weak and useless. I use to be so addicted to Facebook that I would sometimes stay up till 12:00 to do my homework and I would not have time to study for tests. But now as I have grown, I've realized that I need to use my time more wisely because social media is not going to help me in life or going to be useful at any time and I also realized in what kind of negatives ways it changed me.

If you really think about it, social media is not as bad as we think it is. It just depends on which ways you use, how much you use it and for what reasons. And to me it seems like that the negative effect only comes from what you do yourself. There could be positive effects towards social media but it only depends on the way you use it.

Grade 1 Science fair

On april 29,2015 at beaumonde heights JMS was a science fair held by the Grade 1s. The grade 1s worked on different types of structures made out of difference materials and object like Popsicle sticks, glue, paint, paper, cardboard, aluminum foil etc to make their structures strong and look amazing. There were various types of structures like bridges, wells, lighthouse, bed, school bus, robots, houses etc. "The best part about this fair is that the parents could get involved with their childs education"- Ms. Suppa. I agree with this statement because as i went to each student in the gym, and asked where they got the idea and how they made it, their responses were "my mom gave me the idea" or "my dad helped me make it".

"The grade 1s decided to show everyone their structures because they were so proud of how they turned out"- Ms. Orrico, this made me really happy because the grade 1s did an amazing job on building their structures and they were proud of what they did.

Poetry- "it's scary"

It's scary not knowing who you are
It's scary not being able to tell other people about yourself
It’s scary losing the ones you love the most and not being able to save them
It’s scary facing the outside, thinking you'd get rejected
It's scary not being able to try, because it hurts when you fail
It's scary dealing with the world and not knowing what to do
It's scary trusting others, wondering that one day they'll turn their back on you
It's scary having to control all this, when you're too weak
It's scary opening your eyes and seeing what's happening
It's scary being alone in the dark and not having anyone else beside you
It's scary trying to put the puzzle pieces together because there's still one missing
It's scary to cry for those who don't want you
It's scary to not have a shoulder to cry on or someone to rely on
It's scary giving others a part of you because they'll break it into pieces
It's scary seeing smiles on people faces when you don't have one
It's scary not being able to do anything when you can do so much
It's scary even telling a person how you feel because they won't care
It's scary picking up a pencil and trying to tell the world how you feel
It's scary loving someone too much because you know one day they are going to be gone
It's scary looking in the mirror because you don't have the courage to look at what you've done with yourself
It's scary crying for those who will never come back again
It's scary to even say something in front of someone thinking what they will respond with
It's scary knowing there are bright colours out there but you can only see the dark one's
It's scary to take off that mask because underneath there are too many
It's scary having someone leave your life forever because they Had a special place in your heart
It's scary walking in those streets alone because what if something bad happens to you?
It's scary passing by those graveyards because one day that will be you
It's just life.....and it's scary!

Favorite journal response:

What is the most important to you in a friend: loyalty, generosity or honesty? why? provide two detailed examples (one from real life and the other from a text)?

What i think is most important in a friend for me is honesty because honesty is kind of like a circle of trust, sharing and secrets because when  there is honesty in a friendship, everything goes well. if your friend tells you something she thinks you can keep to yourself, then you should be able to trust them and be honest to them. if there is a group of friends, and you only share a secret with one of them, its better to tell the others too because at some point they will find out eventually which might ruin your friendship with the other people in the group of friends. so i think its better if you share your secret with the people you trust and are close to rather than having them find out later on.

An example from real life: once, in a group of friends, i wasn't honest to them about everything, and i didn't tell them all every secrets because i thought they weren't helpful or wouldn't care enough. But after all of them found out that i wasn't being honest to them and  didn't trust them enough. I was scared that i was going to break my friendship with them but they were nice enough to give me another chance and i knew that if i ever keeping something from them, my friendship would totally be finished with the people.

Its hard to find an example from a text because most of them are not always honest because sometimes it shows the good side of it and sometimes the bad side. even though most of the time they keep stuff from their friends and aren't honest about but somehow in the end everything is OK but i still think honesty is a important key to friendship along with loyalty and generosity!

Art- Nose and Mouth

This is the nose and mouth that I drew. We were assigned to make a nose and a mouth using the methods of shading and blending. Even though it was quite hard to get the perfect shade and lighting, I practiced to get it perfect a few a times and then I drew the outline of the nose and mouth. I then shaded it in to make them look more realistic and neat. I hope you like it!

The cheat assignment

The cheat is a book by Amy Goldman Koss including 6 characters jake, Sarah, ruby, Dan, Katie and rob and for this assignment we had to pick one of 6 characters and my group and I chose to do Sarah; the popular and organized girl. Then with that character we had to take 4 pictures of scenes including the character and 4 pictures of something relating to them or they did in one of the Chapters read so far.
Here are some of the scenes my group and I decided to do:
